The International Talk like a Pirate Day is a parody holiday, which takes place on September 19, 2019. In German it is also known as saying-like-a-pirate-day. It was created in 1995 by the Americans John Baur (“Ol ‘Chumbucket”) and Mark Summers (“Cap’n Slappy”) because of their romanticized-transfigured view of the so-called “Golden Age of Piracy”.
At first, the whole thing was more of an internal fun among the two friends. It was not until the two of them reported the famous columnist and Pulitzer Prize winner Dave Barry on their newfound holiday and then wrote a column in 2002, whereupon other media became aware and reported, the idea got international attention.
When is talk like a pirate day?
