1442 Hijri – Islamic New Year Moon Sighting (Country Wise) – 1st Muharram Date Announced

1442 Hijri – Islamic New Year Moon Sighting (Country Wise) – 1st Muharram Date Announced. The Islamic New Year, also known as Arabic New Year or Hijri New Year, is the day that marks the beginning of a new Hijri year, and is the day on which the year count is incremented. The first day of the year is observed on the first day of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar.

As the month of Zul Hijjah comes to an end, Muslims across the world have started the process of sighting the Muharram 1 moon, which marks the beginning of the Hijri or Islamic New Year.

According to the International Astronomy Centre, the Muharram 1 crescent was spotted on Thursday night in Jordan and Algeria, hence marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year in those countries on Friday (August 30).
